School development is a systematic approach to school-level change designed to guide and orient a school towards achieving its mission – improving student learning. Developed in the context of the provincial and school board strategic plans, the development plan reflects the uniqueness of each school. The School Development Model is an outcome-oriented process that involves collective thinking, analysis, problem-solving, planning, and continuous improvement leading to the achievement of specific academic goals. Change must be based on good decisions made in the light of data. The three pillars – teaching and learning, a culture of collaboration, learning for all – form the basis of two goals: student success and welcoming and safe schools/student well-being.
