Saint John, September 14, 2020 – The Conseil scolaire francophone provincial de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador (CSFP) would like to inform parents/guardians and the school community of the reasons that led us to delay the start of the after-school and prematemelle services offered by the Fédération des parents francophones de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador (FPFTNL) until September 28, 2020.

This decision, directly related to the COVID-19 health crisis, was made based on the recommendations issued by the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health asking not to mix cohorts of students (class groups) but also to ensure the appropriate cleaning of schools to reduce the risks related to the spread of the virus. This delay allowed the FPFTNL to implement its reopening plan for after-school and pre-school services. This plan, requested by the CSFP following the publication of its own back-to-school plan, was to specify how the organization intends to comply with public health guidelines. The CSFP wanted to approve the FPFTNL’s reopening plan before allowing the use of the CSFP’s premises shared between the school and community sectors to ensure everyone’s safety.

The FPFTNL’s plan to reopen after-school and pre-school services was received on September 13 and approved on September 14 by the CSFP. The FPFTNL is therefore authorized to reopen its after-school and pre-school programs. The FPFTNL will soon contact the parents of each CSFP school to share with them the date of resumption of their services as well as the new instructions that must be followed to meet public health requirements.

The FPTNL will contact parents to share the reopening plan and to officially specify when the resumption of after-school and pre-school services in CSFP schools will take place
