Notre-Dame-du-Cap School Culture and sport

At Notre-Dame-du-Cap School, our students have many opportunities to enrich their academic and personal career by discovering and practicing cultural and sports activities taking place in the Port-au-Port Peninsula or in other regions where there are Francophone and Acadian communities.

Here is an overview of the cultural activities offered to students at École Notre-Dame-du-Cap:

Traditional Music Program

Accordion lessons

To transmit the Franco-Newfoundland culture specific to the Port-au-Port region, all the school’s students take accordion lessons every week, individually or in small groups.

Francophonie Day
Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador Francophonie Day

On May 30 of each year, in each of the province's Francophone regions, the traditional raising of the Franco-Newfoundland and Labrador flag takes place. It is an opportunity to celebrate the language and culture of Francophones. The French presence in Newfoundland and Labrador dates back more than 500 years and is an important part of its culture.

Sports

A wide range of sports activities are offered to the school’s students, extracurricular activities and during school hours. The most motivated among them even have the chance to participate in the Jeux de l’Acadie.

École Notre-Dame-du-Cap offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that promote the engagement of young people and strengthen their sense of belonging to the school community that comes to life in our school.

The eagles of
Notre-Dame-du-Cap

The Notre-Dame-du-Cap Eagles sports team regularly participates in various friendly sports tournaments organized by the Participation Nation organization.

Acadian Games

Students who wish to do so can also train to participate in the Jeux de l'Acadie, which take place every year. The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation is under the responsibility of the Franco-Jeunes Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador organization, to which the CSFP provides significant support, both financial and human, during the school year as well as during competitions.

Ice Skating Lessons

Skating lessons are part of the regular K-3 physical education program. Eight skating sessions are held from January to March.

Swimming lessons

Swimming lessons are part of the regular physical education program for grades 4 to 6. Eight sessions are held from April to June.
